My name is Thor Jones.
Over the last few months I have had the great pleasure of volunteering at Janabikas school. Before I came to Nepal I was a 4th grade teacher at Nikiski North Star Elementary in Nikiski, Alaska.
At Janabikas Binod Neupane had an idea to share with a school that I had worked at before. I replied that it was a wonderful idea, and could benefit the students on both ends by exposing them to a world completely different from their own.
I started this project by giving some Class 6 students a brief rundown of what sort of things are in Alaska and what life is like there.
I then had the students write letters telling Alaskan students a little about their lives.
I have typed below a few sample letters that I thought had some interesting information. All Nepali students have English as a required subject but it is still their second or even third language. What some of these students have written is pretty impressive considering that. I have done a little bit of editing, but maybe our Alaskan students can help the Nepali students out with their Conventions.
Dear Alaskan Student,
My name are Renu Gurung. we are 13 years old. There are six members in my family. I have 2 brothers and one sister I live with my parents. I live in Besishahar which is a small town in the western part of Nepal. I lik playing football and reading books.
You know Nepal is full of mountains rivers, lakes etc. The highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest is in Nepal. is famous for ancient and artis tic temples in Nepal. Please, write me about you and your country. With best wishes.

First of all Namaste Alaskan student. My name is Dinesh Basnet. I live in Besishahar, 4 Lamjung. I writing leter for my family. I have six members in my family. I have one brother and one sister, my brother and sister love me. I also love my brother sister. I have no grandfather but I have grandmother. My grandmother is 65 years, she is very old. I have father, mother my father is, 45 years old and my mother is 40 years old. I love all my family members and my hobby is running. In my future I will run.
